Hello! pnouns.fyi is a site that will help you create pages where you can make clear to everyone what pronouns, name, and any other language that works best for you.
1. Create Your Account
Let's dive directly in and create an account - you'll need an email address to register.
Enter your email address on pnouns.fyi, complete the captcha, then click "Send Email":
You should receive a short code in your email after a few seconds (but be patient, sometimes it takes a couple of minutes).
Enter that code in the "Token" box and click "Confirm Token".
Ensure that your email is still in the "email" field; if you have reloaded the page or opened it in another tab, please re-enter your email in the top box.
2. Choose your nickname
Once you have an account registered, you will be prompted to choose a nickname/username - this will be part of the URL of all pages you create.
We suggest that you use a pluralized form of your name - it can make the URLs sound more natural. You can see the URLs that can be generated.
Nicknames must meet certain requirements - e.g. they must be at least 3 characters, and can't be a known English word. As you type, you can see if your nickname meets the requirements.
Enter your nickname, then click "Create Nickname".
3. Create a category
You can now create a category under your name. We suggest using the search/dropdown list to find one of our common categories, but you can also switch over and create a custom nickname.
3A. Choose a Category
We've selected "school" as our category
3B. Choose your default URL format
By creating the category, all of the URLs will point to the same page no matter what you select as the default format - you could choose alexs.school.pronouns.fyi/, and could still access your website at alexs.pronouns.fyi/at/school. However, we'll provide links to the URL format you most prefer.
We've selected the first option, alexs.school.pronouns.fyi/.
Finally, click "Create Category".
4. Enter the Page Editor
Congratulations, you've registered the category page! Click "Edit Page" to enter the page editor.
5. Create the Names and Pronouns sections
First, let's create the two core sections - names and pronouns. Click the "plus" on each section to create those categories.
5A. Enter name(s)
You may now enter the names you do or don't want people to use. Enter a name into the text field at the bottom of the section, then press the "plus" button. You may repeat this for as many items as you'd like.
We've gone ahead and entered multiple names and pronouns - we've added our name and a backup/nickname that we're also fine with. For pronouns, we've listed our pronouns, a set of pronouns we're testing, as well as he/him and she/her to make it clear that those would be misgendering.
5B. Select Level of Comfort
You may mark each option with how you feel about it - making it clear what's the most affirming, what should never be used, and anything you are testing out. Of course you can always omit options that aren't affirming, but you have the option to make it very clear what language is incorrect for you.
You can drag items around using the drag handle on the left, and rename items by clicking on the text.
Use the trashcan on the right to delete any options.
6. Add any other sections you would like
Below the name and pronouns section, you may add any other language that you'd like to announce. Some options are listed below as examples, but you can put anything you'd like.
- Honorifics: sir, ma'am, boss, comrade, captain
- Relationships: partner, s/o, boyfriend, girlfriend, joyfriend, husband, wife
- Compliments: pretty, handsome, cute, king, queen, royalty
- Descriptions: person, boy, girl, child, man, woman, individual
You can reorder sections - click the "Order Sections" button on the left and then you can drag sections up and down the list.
7. Publish your site
Once you've got everything set the way you'd like, click the "Publish" button at the top-right. It'll ask you to confirm, click "Publish" on the popup.
You can now preview your website! Check the URL that you selected. You can go back to pnouns.fyi if you'd like to create another page, or edit any of your pages at any time.
